Over the last several posts, we have built an environment that can run an Ubertooth. So, I guess it is time to actually look into Ubertooth prerequisites.
What is Ubertooth?
I have this project that needed to have its Bluetooth snooped upon. Unfortunately, there is not an easy way to do this on a Windows box. Most commercial solutions cost more than my current car new so that is not going to fly on my corner of the planet. Then I found out about Ubertooth. I hopped on Amazon and bought one from NooElec.com. You can build it yourself but I am not that masochistic. I got one with a case to minimize the risk some idiot like me breaking my new expensive toy.
Ubertooth Prerequisites 1: Get VirtualBox Ready
Since pushing USB ports to a VM in Hyper-V on a Windows 10 box is beyond my skills, I used VirtualBox. I have a boatload of posts on this process so I won’t go into much detail here. One thing we will have to do is install the VirtualBox Extension Pack. It is pretty self explanatory. Download and install the executable and BAM, installed software. If you have dealt with Windows in the past then I have faith you can do this without adult supervision.
Prerequisites 2: Get Kali Ready
While we have a Kali Linux VM ready to go we got some additional work to do in order to make everything happy. There are updates that must be run and software to install. Kali only natively got us half way there.
This will be a long topic so I am going to wrap it up here and focus the next posts on the work needed to plug in the Ubertooth. Finally, we will looks at doing a real test on our Ubertooth setup.
If we get really lucky, I might even go so far as to look into the Ubertooth programs or even how to get it to work natively on Windows. I am on the fence about both those topics but I am thinking about it.
